Original acrylic paintings full of bright colors, clean shapes, and much joy.

Bright colors make me smile. There is something about a big orange sunrise, a vast blue ocean, a deep green leaf, or an intense pink peony that fills me with warmth. I try to use the brilliance of color in my paintings to create a visual happiness.

I hope you will enjoy viewing some of these colorful paintings. Check back from time to time to see what's new, feel free to share with friends, or subscribe in the sidebar below to receive occasional updates by email. Paintings are added several times a month. Anything added is sure to be filled with bright colors and much joy! Thanks - Lauren

Summer Travels…

“Wilmington” 5×5 $75

At the breakfast table this morning, P and W discussed all their summer travels.  They are quite excited about hitting the road and hitting the beach.

Are you getting ready for summer travels?  Need a little something for a friend, family member, or maybe even yourself?

I have a series of small paintings that capture kiddos in a summertime kind of mood.  They are all 5×5 on wood block.  Some are entirely acrylic.  Others are acrylic over maps of various locations.  Take a look above and below.  These are all currently available at Slate Interiors.

"Summer Sparklers" 5x5 $75

"Siblings" 5x5 $75

"Fishing in Florida" 5x5 $75

"A Pair for the Parade" 5x5 $75

A quick peek at where you will find them at Slate Interiors….

Looking for something a little more personal….these can be done as commissions.  Just let me know what you need.

Here are a few custom orders from a few months ago.

A Mother’s Gift

In May of 2008, a mother in Colorado gave a mother in North Carolina an amazing and precious gift….the gift of life.

Tragically, one child was lost in an accident, yet another child was given life through a liver transplant.

The  little boy who received the liver five years ago is my nephew.  He is both amazing and precious.

I had the honor of meeting the family from Colorado last fall.  I can’t begin to tell you what a wonderful family they are….full of God’s grace, generosity, and love.  Their faith is both incredible and inspiring.

The painting above is being sent to Colorado this week.

Mother’s Day seems like the perfect opportunity for this surprise gift, don’t you think?

Hope you have a Mother’s Day full of God’s grace, generosity, and love!

My happy & healthy nephew! 4 years and 11 months after the liver transplant.

"Heat Wave" 16x16 on gallery wrapped canvas

Currently hanging…for her…and for him…

Renovating, moving, and decorating…all big projects. All very fun and very exciting!

I had the pleasure of being commissioned to do several paintings for the childrens’ rooms in a recent big project.

Here are the results…ladies first…

EL, the home owner, shared with me the fabric swatches for her daughter’s room, PL.  We talked about things that PL loves, how her room would be arranged, and where she needed art.  Below are three paintings we did for PL to go above an upholstered headboard.

This family loves to  vacation at the beach, so we used starfish to compliment all the pink and green in this young lady’s new room.  So bright and cheery.

PL’s younger brother, RL, is also a fan of family vacations at the beach.  Again, we used swatches from the fabric selected for the room as a starting point…

..and decided upon a family painting to go along with this all-American boy bedroom.

I loved completing these paintings for EL.  And love how they are now currently hanging.

I must give a compliment to the home owner and her designer, Holly Phillips, for the wonderful job they did creating rooms that will grow with these children.  The fabrics and furnishings are perfect for these young ones, but they will also grow with the children beautifully.  I have mentioned before that I am a big fan of real art for children.  Original art, just like quality fabrics and furnishings, will grow with your child.  Those navy and white striped headboards are perfect if you are 3, 13, or 30.  Great for a boys bedroom, guest room, or even recovered many years down the road.  The group of three starfish paintings look wonderful above the headboard, but they can always be used differently down the road.  Keep two pink starfish together in a breakfast room or  powder room.  Send the green one off to PL’s first apartment.  There are endless possibilities with good fabric, furnishings, and art.

Holly - Love them! So cute. Thank you for sharing.

“Let It Snow”

"Let It Snow" 18x18

Did you spend your Spring Break in the surf or in the snow?  We headed to the surf, but the temperatures at the beach had us bundling up like we had headed to the snow!

The painting above was done as a thank you gift for a Winter Break vacation.  Most of my commissions focus on capturing beach memories, so this was quite a change of pace.  I love a new challenge, and must admit I am thrilled with the results.  Ski hats certainly provide endless color combinations.

Above is the photo used for the painting.  And below is a quick story about the kiddos….

Friends for 20+ years, the Evans and the Phillips, got all the children together in Vermont to ski.  Jason Evans, Marshall Phillips, Holly Phillips and I all went to college together.  Holly wanted to send a special thank you gift, so she asked me to do the painting.  I love doing anything for or with Holly, as she is an all around wonderful person.  She has a heart of gold.  And on top of that, she is an incredibly talented interior designer.  See here and here.

Living in Charlotte, I do get to see Holly and Marshall.  I have not seen Jason in years, but I loved getting a glimpse of his post college life through the photos of his children and completing the painting.

Aren’t these children just beautiful?  What memories from recent travels do you need to capture in a painting?

April 19, 2013 - 9:47 pm

Jason Evans - Lauren – I just had to tell you that we absoltely LOVE the painting you did and Holly sent to us. It made its way to the family room wall the minute we opened it and it has already been a conversation piece with our guests. I hope this finds you well and thanks again for such and amazing painting. – Jason
