These precious children belong to a woman I’ve never met…but she’s a mom, so I know her heart. Her heart is huge…full of love that knows no boundaries. She nurtures. She feeds. She encourages. She teaches. She delights. She cares. The list of ways she loves these children goes on and on….
But look closely at this tree….this woman has suffered great loss….carved in that heart are the initials of a sweet precious child she just lost…moments after giving birth…huge, unfathomable, great loss.
I was contacted by a friend of this mom. Her book club wanted to do something for her…to remember this precious baby. In the midst of great loss, this group of women surrounded their hurting friend with words, hugs, meals, kindness, and great love.
I was completely humbled, touched, and honored to be asked to paint for this family. And I am so grateful that Jeremiah 17:7-8 came to mind for this piece. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” I knew she needed a tree with those loved initials carved in a heart giving shelter and shade to her oldest two children. And my prayers are that this mom and her sweet family will look at this painting and find great hope…for where there is love, there is always hope.
